Update on Studio City/Sherman Oaks Power Outage (11:15 a.m.)Power Restored to 7,000 customers with 1,500 Remaining without Power |
LOS ANGELES — As of 11:15 a.m. this morning Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) power system crews have successfully restored power to 7,000 customers impacted by the outage in Sherman Oaks/Studio City, approximately 1,500 remain without power at this time. Crews expect power to be fully restored in the area by late this evening following the installation of temporary distribution equipment. At approximately 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night, all power served by LADWP Electric Distributing Station 49 was interrupted, causing a power outage in portions of Studio City and Sherman Oaks. Crews responded to the scene to investigate a possible equipment explosion as reported by LAFD. The scene was initially declared “No Entry” by LAFD for safety reasons due to the possibility that hot oil and potentially hazardous conditions existed. Thereafter, crews were allowed to enter the affected portions of the facility only with full hazardous materials suits to assess the damage, for safety reasons. As of this hour, crews have identified a “Feeder Regulator” in the South Feeder Room of the facility as having failed, spraying oil and other material throughout the room and adjacent areas. The hazardous conditions have slowed our crew’s progress in restoring power to all customers. We will provide further updates as the situation develops.
