UPDATE–North Hollywood Pipe Leak
LOS ANGELES — LADWP and private crews remain on the scene of a pipe leak on Vanowen Street between Hinds and Morella where shortly after noon today, a valve attachment being used in the course of construction on a major 66-inch water pipeline failed, causing a rush of water to be released on Vanowen Street.  No injuries occurred.

Crews already on the scene reacted quickly to contain the leak and fully shut down the large-diameter pipeline that is part of the City’s water supply system.  The leak did not affect water service to any customers.

At this time, the leak has been completely shut off and traffic has been restored to its prior condition during construction activity of one lane in each direction.

The release of water occurred during a planned shutdown of the pipeline that was initially expected to last two weeks.  Water flow had been significantly reduced through the line and now has been shut down completely while repairs are made.  Crews will make repairs to the valve and determine whether the line will remain out of service for a longer period of time.  Water service to customers is not expected to be impacted by the repairs or shutdown since water that normally flows through the pipe will be rerouted through other lines that are part of the LADWP’s water supply network.
