Rainstorm Power Outage Update #3
LOS ANGELES – As of 4 p.m., approximately 17,000 of LADWP’s 1.4 million electric customers are without power as a result of the rainstorm moving through the Los Angeles area. Since the start of rain last night, more than 27,000 customers have had power restored. LADWP crews are responding to outage calls and working now to restore power as quickly and safely as possible; they will work around the clock until all the affected customers have their power restored.

Some of the most frequent causes of power outages during rain storms are dried palm fronds, tree branches and other debris that fall and make contact with power lines. This is particularly true with the first rain after an extended period of time. The following communities have the most number of customers currently impacted:

Venice: 7,900

Hollywood: 2,400

Vermont-Slauson:  2,300

Palms: 1,700

Westchester: 1,000

Hyde Park: 880

Sun Valley: 1,100

LADWP urges all customers to use caution around downed or dangling power wires or poles. Always assume a downed line is still energized; never touch one. Report any downed power lines immediately by calling the LADWP at 1-800-DIAL-DWP. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911.
