LADWP crews begin process of removing a large tree that damaged several power poles, causing an outage in the Brentwood area.

LOS ANGELES (FEBRUARY 6, 2024) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has reported that as of 5:00 p.m., approximately 6,600 customers were without power, out of 1.5 million customers citywide. Since the beginning of the storm our crews have restored power to approximately 59,000 customers. Our response level remains elevated, with a response time to begin repairs of between 4-12 hours from the time an outage began. Over 90% of customers currently experiencing a power outage live in part of Brentwood, Koreatown, and Mid-Wilshire.

Approximately half of the customers affected by the power outage in portions of Brentwood have been restored. Crews worked with the City’s Bureau of Street Services to have a fallen tree removed. With the tree cleared from the area, LADWP crews are able to begin repair and restoration work, However, in addition to the fallen tree, crews have identified an underground issue as part of the outage affecting portions of Brentwood and its complex repairs can take some time to fix. Our crews are working tirelessly to get everyone restored as quickly and safely as possible.

Crews also continue working to isolate an underground power cable outage that is affecting portions of Koreatown. This requires pumping water out of the flooded vaults before repairs can be made. Crews have already replaced two underground transformers and will work around the clock until all customers are restored.

LADWP reminds the public to NEVER TOUCH A DOWNED or DANGLING WIRE or ANYONE OR ANYTHING in contact with it. Always assume a downed wire is still energized with high voltage electricity. Stay away and immediately CALL 9-1-1.

We encourage everyone to report a power outage online and to check the map for status at ladwp.com/outages. You can also sign up for outage text alerts if you visit the website. Customers can call us at 1-800-DIAL-DWP. Updates for specific affected neighborhood outages will also be shared via LADWP’s Nextdoor account.

Meanwhile on the stormwater capture front, since the start of the storm on Sunday, LADWP has captured 6.2 billion gallons of stormwater which has the potential to become drinking water supply for Angelenos.
