LADWP Power System Registers Highest-Ever Customer Demand for ElectricityContinued Energy Conservation Encouraged for Monday Night, All Day Tuesday |
LOS ANGELES — Coinciding with the hottest day on record in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) registered a new all-time peak energy demand of an estimated 6177 megawatts on Monday at 3:45 p.m. The previous peak demand of 6165 megawatts occurred on July 24, 2006.
Despite the record-breaking energy demand on Monday, the LADWP system functioned well and power outages were minimal among the Department’s 1.4 million customers. As of 6:30 p.m. Monday, the most significant power outages on the system were as follows: Westwood: 1100 customers LADWP power crews are on-scene at these outages and working to restore service to affected customers as quickly and safely as possible. With the unseasonable heat wave expected to continue tomorrow, LADWP urges customers to continue saving energy wherever possible, while staying safe, tonight and throughout Tuesday. “During times of extreme heat, we strongly encourage customers to conserve energy wherever possible as long as it does not jeopardize anyone’s own health or safety,” said Aram Benyamin, Senior Assistant General Manager, LADWP Power System. “Although the temperature is expected to cool off somewhat on Tuesday, it is wise to be cautious just in case.” Following are simple tips customers can use to reduce their power consumption: Tips for the Home:
