On Saturday, August 8th at approximately 10:15 p.m., an electrical circuit that feeds streetlights adjacent to the Hollywood Bowl through power lines that carry over 6,000 volts of electricity experienced a power outage. This interruption led to a power disruption at the Hollywood Bowl, which lasted approximately 3 minutes in duration. Contrary to initial reports, the outage was not connected to any planned construction or other planned work by LADWP crews.
At the LADWP we take pride in providing among the most reliable power in the State of California, when compared to other major utilities. However, unexpected outages can and do occur. In this case, Bowl staff and our crews acted quickly to restore power and fortunately, the show was able to continue. We apologize for any inconvenience or concern this outage may have caused concertgoers and for not communicating more quickly and correctly about its cause. We have been in touch with Bowl management and are taking steps to improve more timely communication in the future.
