West Hollywood Pipe BreakWater Pipe Incident Reported at the Corner of Sunset Boulevard and Olive |
LADWP crews are at the site of a broken water pipe in West Hollywood at the corner Sunset Boulevard and Olive. Based on preliminary information, the break occurred at approximately 2:18 p.m. and a report of the break was received at approximately 2:26pm. The street is currently closed to traffic on both directions and LADWP personnel are on site working to shutting down a 36-inch pipe that is believed to have ruptured. The pipe suspected to be involved is steel riveted and was installed in 1916. It was then cement-lined in 1957 to extend its service life.
The shutdown operation of the pipeline is complex and is estimated to involve approximately 15 valves that have to be hand-turned in a coordinated manner to isolate the pipe, minimize loss of service to our customers, protect the pipes in the area from further rupture and to protect water quality for residents in the area. We will update as further information becomes available. For the latest information, follow us on Twitter @LADWP and on our newspage at www.ladwpnews.com . |
