Granada Hills/Porter Ranch Water Incident Update #13
August 11, 2025 – AM Update
As of 2:37 AM this morning, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) crews have restored water service to all customers in the Granada Hills – Porter Ranch area impacted by the water outage as a result of a broken valve that required complex repairs. Water restoration was possible after crews dug and cut out the broken valve and welded in a new section of pipe that allows normal water flow to the 10-million-gallon tank serving the area.
While LADWP has restored water service to the impacted communities, the Boil Water Notice remains in place until testing confirms the safety of the drinking water. Affected customers should only use tap water in their area for non-potable uses including for showering, toilet flushing, and landscaping, until further notice.
All fire hydrants in the affected area currently meet LAFD firefighting standards and are now available to support urban firefighting efforts when needed. LADWP has been in close coordination with the LAFD and has communicated the restoration of hydrants to fire officials.
We want to thank our hardworking LADWP crews who made major progress over the weekend, and overnight from Sunday into Monday morning, to restore full water service to Granada Hills and Porter Ranch.
LADWP issued an update overnight to the community and partner agencies once crews achieved water restoration, as well as to remind affected customers to continue to follow the Boil Water Notice guidance until further notice. A city Wireless Emergency Alert was also sent out at 7 AM Monday morning to affected customers, with the support of the City’s Emergency Operations Center.
LADWP is taking the necessary steps to restore and ensure the highest drinking water quality and are following strict water quality testing procedures, in coordination with the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water (CA-DDW). This comprehensive process involves water sampling and testing—once the CA-DDW gives LADWP the all-clear, we will notify affected customers that the Boil Water Notice is lifted, this process may take a few days.
Now that tap water service has been restored, LADWP will permanently close its mobile showers and laundry facilities at 10 pm Monday, August 11. However, LADWP will continue to provide bottled water distribution as well as recycled water for customers still interested in using non-potable water for irrigation, until the Boil Water Notice is lifted.
