Update on Studio City / Sherman Oaks Power Outage

Power Restored to 3,700 customers with 4,900 Remaining without Power at 6AM

As of 6AM this morning LADWP power system crews are working to restore power to approximately 4,900 customers out of 8,700 who lost power at approximately 9:15 pm last night in portions of Studio City and Sherman Oaks.  Crews have been able to reroute power to some customers who were affected and have restored power to 3,700 customers.

At approximately 9:15 pm Wednesday night, all power served by LADWP Electric Distributing Station 49 was interrupted, causing a power outage in portions of Studio City and Sherman Oaks. Crews responded to the scene to investigate a possible equipment explosion as reported by LAFD. The scene was initially declared “No Entry” by LAFD for safety reasons due to the possibility that hot oil and potentially hazardous conditions existed. Thereafter, crews were allowed to enter the affected portions of the facility only with full hazardous materials suits to assess the damage, for safety reasons. As of this hour, crews have identified a “Feeder Regulator” in the South Feeder Room of the facility as having failed, spraying oil and other material throughout the room and adjacent areas. The hazardous conditions have slowed our crew’s progress in restoring power to all customers.

LADWP electric trouble crews were able to isolate some of the electric circuits and have restored power to 3,700 customers.  They will continue to work to restore power to the remaining 4,900 customers throughout the morning and day.  At this time, there is no estimated time of restoration, but crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get affected customers’ power restored.

We will provide further updates as the situation develops.
