Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Traffic Advisory: Construction on New Power Cable Progresses on Vista Del Mar

September 6, 2013

Traffic Advisory:
Construction on New Power Cable Progresses
on Vista Del Mar

New Scattergood-Olympic Transmission Cable will Improve
Power Reliability in Western Area of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — Construction has begun on a new 230-kV underground transmission cable designed to improve power reliability in the communities of Playa del Rey, Westchester, Marina Del Rey, and West Los Angeles. Phase I of the project is  expected to progress from Grand Avenue to the intersection of Grand and Vista Del Mar later this week, and then continue north on Vista Del Mar.

Commuters are advised to expect delays during construction on Vista Del Mar. The road will be narrowed to one lane in each direction as construction continues along Vista Del Mar from Grand Avenue to Imperial Highway. Once work is completed at the intersection early next week, construction activity will continue through March, and be in progress 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. No construction will occur between 6 a.m. Sundays and 6 a.m. Mondays.

Traffic controls including barricades and flag personnel will be in place as needed throughout the construction period.

The new Scattergood-Olympic Transmission Cable Project will reinforce and increase the electrical capacity of the existing transmission system, which is nearly 40 years old.

The two-year project, which is scheduled for completion by summer 2015, requires constructing a new 11.8 mile high-voltage line from the Scattergood Generating Station in Playa del Rey to the Olympic substation (RS-K) at Centinela Avenue and Olympic Boulevard in West Los Angeles.

Work will involve installing conduit in trenches that are 3 feet wide and up to 12 feet deep, along with underground maintenance vaults every 1,500 to 2,500 feet. Additionally there will be improvements to the existing infrastructure connecting the cable at the generating station and the substation.

LADWP thanks motorists for their patience. We will continue to inform the community of construction progress and issue traffic advisories as needed throughout the project. For further information, please visit www.ladwp.com/Scattergood-Olympic.
