Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

STATEMENT BY LADWP REGARDING EMPLOYEE ARREST

February 6, 2013

STATEMENT BY LADWP REGARDING EMPLOYEE ARREST

LOS ANGELES — The LADWP abides by and adheres to City personnel policies with respect to hiring and employment.   That policy can be found in Section 1.3 here.  With respect to the individual in question, we are prohibited by law from discussing any potential disciplinary actions and matters pertaining to a specific employee.  The Department is conducting a full investigation and will follow established disciplinary procedures and take appropriate action, in accordance with City policy and State law.

As we reported last Friday, LADWP Security Services received a tip approximately two weeks ago regarding possible theft of Department building materials by a Department employee.  Security Services conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that this matter warranted referral to the Los Angeles Police Department.  On Friday, based on the information provided by LADWP, the LAPD arrested a four year employee of the Department who is a carpenter.  His work entailed construction activity on LADWP projects and did not involve contact with the public.
