Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Sheared Fire Hydrant Incident

May 18, 2016

Sheared Fire Hydrant Incident

Grand View Drive, Hollywood Hills

Update: May 18, 2016 1 p.m.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) was notified of water flowing from a fire hydrant at the 8400 block of Grand View Drive in Hollywood Hills. Crews responded to the scene and shut off water to hydrant at approximately 1:30 a.m. No customer water services were affected.  However, the hydrant is served by a 12-inch main and considerable water flow resulted.

Flowing water from the sheared hydrant caused a significant amount of mud and debris to flow down the hillside and onto Sunset Blvd. The cause of the sheered hydrant is under investigation.

King’s Road is closed from Hillside Dr. to Sunset Blvd. to ensure public safety. LADWP is working to clean up the area and working closely with City agencies to ensure public safety during the clean-up process.

LADWP is currently repairing the hydrant and will provide updates regarding the clean-up process throughout the day.  The cleanup is anticipated to last into the night.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
