Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

MEDIA ADVISORY: LADWP and IBEW Local 18 Host Lineman’s Rodeo Competition

WHAT:  
Utility linemen from the Western United States show off their knowledge, athleticism and commitment to safety at the 2019 Los Angeles Lineman’s Rodeo.

Hosted each year by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and IBEW Local 18, the Lineman’s Rodeo is a family friendly event in which journeymen and apprentice lineman teams complete challenging obstacles designed to test training, job skills and safety procedures, all while following detailed instructions and adhering to time limits. Rodeo competition events mirror challenges encountered every day by LADWP utility crews who risk their lives to ensure reliable power is provided to the city’s 4 million residents.

Competition winners will advance to the International Lineman’s Rodeo in Overland Park, KS this October.

WHO:
Twenty-five journeyman and 46 apprentice lineman teams from 12 utilities across the Western United States and Canada; 57 vendors selling industry gear and supplies; over 140 volunteers; LADWP employees and community members.
