September 14, 2021

LADWP Ranked on Forbes’ “America’s Best Employers by State” List, Survey of 80,000 American Workers

Los Angeles (September 14, 2021) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has been recognized as one of the top employers in California by Forbes magazine. LADWP was ranked No. 53 statewide on the “America’s Best Employers by State” list, published on August 24, 2021. Measuring companies with more than 500 employees across 50 states and the District of Colombia, the list was based on data from 80,000 American workers and listed the top-ranked 1,329 companies.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic creating additional challenges for our workforce, LADWP is even more committed to creating a work culture that truly supports our dedicated employees. We are honored to be recognized as a leading employer by Forbes,” said LADWP General Manager and Chief Engineer Martin L. Adams. “In addition to prioritizing and investing in our workforce, the Department is also embracing forward-thinking initiatives, such as establishing our Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and committing to 100% clean energy and 100% recycled wastewater by 2035. The shift to a more sustainable and inclusive future, as well as our commitment offering excellent opportunities in our skilled craft positions that keep our water and power systems running, help us attract innovative individuals looking to make history.”

The largest municipal utility in the nation, serving more than 4 million residents, LADWP has been providing water and electricity to Los Angeles for over 100 years. With more than 11,000 employees spanning multiple generations, LADWP promotes a work environment that values diversity and inclusion, with many opportunities for professional and personal growth. To help fulfill its commitment to excellent customer service, and to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective water and power to customers, LADWP employs frontline skilled craft employees, professional engineers, accountants, information technology professionals, customer service representatives and many other skilled and professional staff. LADWP also offers competitive salaries and benefits to its employees.

Forbes partnered with analytics firm Statista to conduct the independent survey. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees who were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employees were also asked to evaluate other employers in their respective industry and state what stood out either positively or negatively.
