Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

LADWP Tips and Resources to Help You Conserve Energy While Staying Cool

May 29, 2025

LADWP has the supply to meet customer demand at this time, but demand for electricity across the region can remain high.  Following simple tips to conserve electricity safely can also help to reduce strain on neighborhood electrical infrastructure that can overheat from not having adequate time to cool off overnight.

LADWP recommends the following tips to conserve energy while still staying safe from the heat:

  • Adjust your air conditioning thermostats to 78 degrees. If you are away from your home and do not have pets inside, turn your air conditioning systems off.
  • Limit the use of major appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and dishwashers to before 4pm, or after 9 pm.
  • Ventilate your home in the early morning and evening by opening windows and doors to clear out the heat and allow cooler air to circulate. Close window curtains, shades, or blinds during warmer hours to reduce the extra heat from direct sunlight coming through windows.
  • Turn off lights and other electrical equipment when they are not in use.
  • Unplug “energy vampires” like cell phone and computer chargers, and other appliances that use energy even when not in use.
  • Pre-cook meals. Avoid using the stove and oven if possible, which can help to keep temperatures down indoors.

Other tips for staying cool or what to do during a power outage can be found here.
