LADWP Statement Regarding the Colorado River Contamination |
LOS ANGELES —LADWP is closely monitoring developments on the accidental release of contaminated mine drainage by a crew working for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) on August 5th in southwestern Colorado. While a portion of the treated drinking water that LA purchases from MWD originates from the Colorado River, early indications are that the mine contamination will not impact MWD’s source area. And beyond that, we have every confidence that MWD’s diligent and robust water monitoring processes will ensure that supply to LA and all its member agencies will remain safe for consumption today and for the years ahead.
LADWP remains committed to reliably providing safe, high quality drinking water to our 4 million customers.
