LOS ANGELES (April 28, 2025 ) — The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) hosted its 10th annual Sustainability Awards event to honor 20 of the utility’s largest customers in recognition of their energy and water savings.
Customers were recognized for their installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, their facilities’ significant reductions in carbon emissions, and/or reductions in water use resulting from their participation in LADWP rebate programs.
In total, the actions taken by the 2025 honorees saved more than 11.5 million KWH and conserved more than 1.6 million gallons of water last year. Transportation electrification honorees installed 396 Level 2 EV chargers and 50 Level 3 DCFC EV chargers.
This is the equivalent of taking 2,995 of homes off the grid; saving enough energy to power 2,995 number of homes; and avoiding 7,038,000 pounds or 3,192 metric tons of CO2 which is equivalent to 750 vehicles not driven for an entire year.
Developed and managed by LADWP Customer Service Division’s Key Accounts Section since 2016, the Sustainability Awards Program has offered LADWP an annual opportunity to gather with Los Angeles’ business community to acknowledge their shared commitment to sustainability and the environmental achievements resulting from customer participation in the utility’s rebate programs.
“We are incredibly grateful for your commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Each of you and the companies you represent play an important role in conservation,” said Janisse Quiñones, LADWP Chief Executive Officer and Chief Engineer, in opening remarks. “By participating in our conservation and efficiency programs, not only are you supporting a healthier Los Angeles, you are also inspiring others to do the same by embracing greener practices within your businesses.”
Held at the John Ferraro Building, LADWP’s headquarters in downtown Los Angeles, the event featured a panel discussion on the topic of “Resiliency and Sustainability: Looking into the Future,” moderated by Kendall Helm, LADWP’s Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer. The panelists were: Nancy Sutley, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for Energy and Sustainability, Anselmo Collins, LADWP’s Senior Assistant General Manager–Water System and David Hanson, LADWP’s Senior Assistant General Manager-Power System.
The annual awards event represents an opportunity for LADWP and its Commercial, Industrial and Institutional (CII) customers to come together to honor their joint efforts toward, and commitment to environmental responsibility, and to hear more about related sustainability endeavors shaping the city and region.
Since the event’s inception in 2016, it has recognized more than 100 LADWP customers for their achievements in electrification, efficiency, and conservation brought about by their participation in the utility’s rebate and incentive programs.
This year, trophies were awarded in four categories: Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Electrification of Transportation, and Demand Response. Customers achieving the greatest absolute energy or water savings earned Leadership Awards, while customers achieving the greatest energy or water savings relative to their annual usage earned Impact Awards.
During the last 10 years, several companies have distinguished themselves as multiple award recipients. They include the Los Angeles Unified School District (16), the University of Southern California (11), Los Angeles World Airports (10), Anheuser Busch (7); and Airgas, Kaiser and Los Angeles Cold Storage (6 each).
Honorees and the scale of their sustainability accomplishments are determined through quantitative analysis of their environmental impacts. The amount of water or energy savings is calculated based on the savings achieved during the year those sustainability measures were implemented in comparison to the calendar year prior to implementation.
