LADWP Invites Public Input on Draft 2015 Urban Water Management Plan

Public participation encouraged in planning for LA’s long-term water resource needs
February 25, 2016 – To provide stakeholders with an opportunity to review and provide input on the 2015 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP), LADWP will be holding two public hearings on the newly released draft 2015 UWMP.  Input received from these public hearings will be considered in the preparation of the UWMP updates.

The UWMP is the LADWP’s long-term water resources management strategy for the next 25 years through 2040. The proposed 2015 UWMP calls for reducing the City’s reliance on high cost imported water supplies through strategies that include conservation and groundwater improvement, as well was expansion of stormwater capture efforts and recycled water use.

The updates to the 2015 UWMP will be consistent with the City’s goals and policy objectives for a reliable water supply, such as Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Executive Directive #5 and the Sustainable City pLAn. The draft 2015 UWMP and appendices are available for viewing or download at www.ladwp.com/uwmp.

The first of two public hearings will be held on March 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at LADWP Headquarters (John Ferraro Building), 111 N. Hope Street, Los Angeles 90012. This hearing will be broadcast live and viewable via the internet for anyone unable to attend in person. The live webcast will allow for questions and comments during the public hearing. A link for the webcast will be posted prior to the meeting at www.ladwp.com/uwmp.  The second public hearing will be held in the Valley on March 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sepulveda Garden Center, 16633 Magnolia Blvd., Encino CA 91406.

The final 2015 UWMP is expected to be presented to the Board of Water and Power Commissioners for adoption in May 2016.  LADWP plans to submit the 2015 UWMP to the California Department of Water Resources by July 1, 2016.

Public comments can also be submitted via email to uwmp@ladwp.com or U.S. mail to LADWP JFB, 111. N. Hope Street, Room 1460, Los Angeles, CA 90012, Attn: Simon Hsu. All comments must be received by March 16, 2016.

LADWP is required to adopt a UWMP every five years to comply with the California’s Urban Water Management Planning Act (Act) codified in Sections 10610 through 10656 of the California Water Code.
