Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

LADWP Heat Storm Update – September 8, 2024, 9:00 a.m.

September 8, 2024

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews continue working in the field to respond to power outages. Below is an update on our heat storm response as of 9AM on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The current number of customers without power is 8,815 out of LADWP’s 1.5 million electric customers. The number of customers without power in any given community remains relatively low. There are currently around 100 separate outage incidents that are mainly smaller, residential outages, and they take time for crews to respond and restore. University Park, Exposition Park, Echo Park, Northridge and Pacoima are among the communities with the most number of customers impacted. The Department’s Operation Center (DOC) continues to be activated to coordinate our response across the organization.

Crews continue to prioritize the restoration of longer-duration outages as well as large circuit outages.

Our Electric Trouble remains at a LEVEL 2 Response Level, meaning that customers experiencing an outage can expect that a crew will respond to their outage between 12-24 hours. This is necessary due to the high number of smaller outages and is meant to help set expectations for our customers that reflect operating conditions and response times.

LADWP reminds our customers who rely on life-saving devices powered by electricity that if you are experiencing a power outage and without backup power supply, seek immediate medical attention by calling call 9-1-1. Please make sure to call emergency services if you are in need of medical assistance.
