Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

LADWP Heat Storm Update – September 8, 2024, 10:00 p.m.

September 8, 2024

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews continue working in the field to respond to power outages. Below is an update on our heat storm response as of 10 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The current number of customers without power is 13,926 out of LADWP’s 1.5 million electric customers. The number of customers without power in any given community remains relatively low. The communities with the highest number of impacted customers continue to be Harvard Park, Hollywood and Northridge.

Customers affected by outages related to the overloaded Distributing Station 27, which were mentioned in the 6 PM update, were restored at 5:30 PM today. In addition, power to the Hollywood Bowl was restored around 6:30 PM; the outage was related to the current extreme heat conditions. Angelenos who have been affected by extended outages over 24 hours continue to be restored – these outages are primarily small in terms of customers affected. We appreciate customers’ understanding during this challenging time, and are working as quickly and safety as possible to restore power to all affected.

Customers experiencing an outage can expect that a crew response may extend beyond 24 hours. We are utilizing all available resources to support our restoration efforts at this time. With crews working around the clock, we continue to prioritize the restoration of outages with the longest durations and others involving large circuit outages, affecting the largest number of customers. To relieve crews who have worked throughout the day in difficult conditions, additional crews will be brought in to continue power restoration work at 12 AM.

We continue to share information via our social media channels, including this LADWP September 2024 Outage Response FAQ which is posted in our newsroom and will be shared in our news release and social media.
