LADWP Continues to Restore Service to Customers Impacted by Recent Wind Storm
OVER 100,000 CUSTOMERS RESTORED

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is continuing to work round-the-clock to restore all customers impacted by the recent wind storm that swept across the City Thursday afternoon. Around 5,953 customers continue to experience power disruption.

LADWP crews have been responding to over 1,000 separate outages caused by wind-related problems. Crews continue to work 16-hour shifts and have been called in from throughout the City as well as outlying areas. However, LADWP officials said that full restoration could take 12-24 hours more and that localized outages could continue into Sunday.
Areas that continue to be impacted include South Los Angeles, Echo Park, Hancock Park, Cheviot Hills, North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks, as well as numerous smaller outages on lines that impact small clusters of 1 to 4 homes each.
Since the windstorm began, LADWP has restored power for over 100,000 customers. Most of the wind-related outages were caused by high winds knocking trees into power lines, breaking or cracking power poles, broken cross arms and downing wires.
The Recreation and Parks Department opened a number of facilities for LA residents without power. The centers were opened yesterday and have been operating on a 24-hour basis. A decision will be made this afternoon whether to keep the centers open through the night based on customer need.

What to Do During an Extended Power Outage

These tips can help you and your family stay safe in the event of an extended power outage.

• It is especially important to stay calm in the event of a power outage.

• Always keep a flashlight and extra batteries near by. Never use candles in a power outage or other emergency.

• Turn off or disconnect any appliances or electronic equipment you were using when the power went out.

• Leave one light turned on so you will know when your power returns.

• If you are cold, don’t light a fire indoors. Put on layers of warm clothing instead.

• Leave the doors of your refrigerator and freezer closed to keep the food as fresh as possible. If you must eat food that was refrigerated or frozen, check it carefully for signs of spoilage.
