Joint Statement by Thomas S. Sayles, President, Board of Water and Power Commissioners and Ronald O. Nichols, General Manager, LADWP, on the Passage of Charter Measures I and J

The following statement was released today by Thomas S. Sayles, President of the Board of Water and Power Commissioners and Ronald O. Nichols, General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, regarding the approval of Charter Measures I and J by Los Angeles voters:

“We are ready to begin working immediately with the Office of Public Accountability and Ratepayer Advocate.  We have identified and will make available funding for the office in accordance with Measure I and we are identifying appropriate office space should the Ratepayer Advocate wish to locate at our offices.  While many of the details of the office are yet to be determined, our customers can be assured that we are committed to increased transparency and are ready and willing to work cooperatively with the Ratepayer Advocate.”

“With respect to Charter Amendment J, we have already accelerated our budget planning for this year to align with the schedule set forth in Measure J.  We are committed to providing the City Council with budgetary information from LADWP earlier than in the past so that they can make better informed decisions with respect to the City Budget.”
