Resources Available to Support Porter Ranch and Granada Hills During Boil Water Notice
Granada Hills/Porter Ranch Water Incident Update #5 August 7, 2025 – AM Update

LADWP is asking customers in Porter Ranch and Granada Hills who are currently under a Boil Water Notice issued on Wednesday, not to use the tap water at their homes and businesses, to assist with water restoration efforts underway.
As a result of a broken valve to a large-diameter trunkline that supplies water to the area, customers in those communities have either lost water service entirely or have low water pressure at their homes and businesses. As crews make progress toward refilling the water system in the area, customers may experience low water pressure at their tap. We need customers to keep their taps shut and use bottled water for drinking and cooking uses to allow the pipes and tank serving your neighborhoods to refill. Using tap water during these operations will cause a loss of pressure that is critical to restore service. Please turn off sprinklers and do not use water available at your home or business for irrigating your lawns and gardens.
In addition to continuing its bottled water distribution, LADWP will also deploy three water tankers today with non-drinking water to the three bottled water distribution locations for customers who want to pick up water for non-drinking uses such as for irrigating lawns and gardens. Information on these three locations are below under SUPPORT FOR CUSTOMERS.
Meanwhile, LADWP crews continue working around the clock on two fronts: to pump water back to the trunkline to restore water to customers as soon as possible, and excavating more than 20-feet below ground to access a 54-inch diameter line supplying water the area, to repair the broken valve . As part of the water restoration effort, LADWP personnel will be seen in the Porter Ranch and Granada Hills communities throughout the day “bleeding air” from fire hydrants—a process of removing caps from fire hydrants to release trapped air in order to restore water pressure and water service to the hydrants.
Work is underway at the intersection of Orozco and Balboa Blvds, and Sesnon and Balboa Blvds, impacting traffic lanes. Motorists and pedestrians around these areas should take extra caution and follow traffic detours. We urge those who do not live or work in the area to avoid the area until all work is completed.
We recognize the loss of water to the area is a major inconvenience to our customers and we are doing everything we can to bring back the water to the area as quickly and safely as possible.
LADWP crews will continue to work around the clock until repairs are made, and we will continue to provide support and information throughout this incident.
BOIL WATER NOTICE
While most customers in the area are without water service, some at lower elevations may still have water service at a low pressure. A Boil Water Notice remains in effect today for affected customers in portions of Porter Ranch and Granada Hills due to the ongoing repair work to a broken valve serving the Granada Hills and Porter Ranch communities.
The Boil Water Notice can be accessed by clicking this link: BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR PORTIONS OF PORTER RANCH AND GRANADA HILLS (ladwpnews.com).
Customers located within the affected must continue to boil their water before using it to drink, cook, make ice cubes, prepare food such as washing vegetables, or to brush teeth until further notice. This is required to ensure safety and public health.
More information regarding this incident can be found at www.ladwp.com/WaterQuality which includes the Boil Water Notice as well as an interactive map to enter your address if you need to check if the Boil Water Notice applies to you. BACKGROUND ON WATER LOSS AND ONGOING REPAIR WORK
On Tuesday afternoon, August 5th, while water system crews were making repairs at a pump station that connects to a 10-million-gallon water tank that serves the area, a valve that controls the flow of water broke during repairs and failed to reopen. As a result, the water flowing into a 54-inch-diameter pipe serving the area was cut off.
This has led to a water service outage in the general area bounded by Rinaldi Avenue to the south, Balboa Blvd to the east, De Soto Ave to the west and the foothills & hills to the north. For specific boundaries, please refer to the map below.

LADWP water crews have excavated more than a dozen feet underground and have about ten more feet to excavate before reaching the broken valve to restore water flow to the tank serving the Porter Ranch and Granada Hills areas. The location of the valve is over 20 feet below ground where two oil pipelines, a critical fiber optic line, gas line and large boulders have complicated repair efforts. Excavation can only begin after the pipelines are cleared. Current estimate for repairs could take through this weekend to be completed.
LADWP crews are also taking multiple approaches to come up with a temporary solution to route water back to the trunkline and restore water service to customers sooner as they continue to make permanent repairs. Once additional pumps being brought in from vendors arrive today, crews will be ready to begin pumping water from a nearby Metropolitan Water District of Southern California supply, into LADWP’s 54-inch trunkline supplying the area.
SUPPORT FOR CUSTOMERS
To support our customers, LADWP has set up bottled water distribution sites to provide drinking water to those affected. At these same locations, we are also providing portable showers, handwashing stations, mobile laundry units, and portable toilets. Overnight, crews have set up additional resources, including more shower locations, to assist customers, and efforts are underway to establish even more resources throughout the day.
