Granada Hills/Porter Ranch Water Incident Update #9
August 9, 2025 – AM Update

LADWP crews are working continuously to restore water service to the Granada Hills and Porter Ranch communities. While one team focuses on completing a permanent valve repair, other crews are actively pumping water back into the local system to bring service back online.

As of 7:00 AM, the 10-million-gallon tank serving the area has reached approximately 27% capacity—a strong step forward.

To speed up the process, we installed an additional pump overnight, and two more are on the way this Saturday. These extra pumps will boost water flow, allowing us to begin water quality testing earlier than usual—before repairs are fully complete.

To help speed up full water service restoration, we kindly ask residents in the affected areas to keep taps turned off for now. Every time water is used, it lowers the level in the large tank our crews are working hard to refill and pressurize. Think of it like trying to fill a bathtub without a drain stopper—if water keeps flowing out, it takes much longer to fill up.

Your cooperation makes a big difference, and we truly appreciate your support as we work to bring water service back to everyone as quickly and safely as possible.

You can help by following these guidelines:

  • Use bottled water for drinking and cooking.
  • Keep all indoor and outdoor taps closed.
  • Refrain from doing laundry and dishes.
  • TURN OFF all sprinklers and smart irrigation systems.
  • TURN OFF swimming pool automatic fill systems.

LADWP will notify customers once pumping operations are complete and water can be used for purposes other than drinking or cooking. To lift the Boil Water Notice, LADWP’s Water Quality team will conduct a comprehensive testing process to ensure the water meets safety standards for consumption.

If you must use water and you are within the affected area, boil water before using it to drink, cook, make ice cubes, prepare food such as washing vegetables, or to brush teeth until further notice. This is required to ensure safety and public health. The Boil Water Notice is in affect due to the ongoing repair work to a broken valve serving the Granada Hills and Porter Ranch communities.

The Boil Water Notice can be accessed by clicking this link: BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR PORTIONS OF PORTER RANCH AND GRANADA HILLS (ladwpnews.com).

LADWP continues to provide support to vulnerable customers, including seniors and customers with disabilities and functional needs, who are unable to visit the bottled water distribution centers. We encourage these customers to call LADWP’s call center at 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397) to “Report an Outage” and request to speak to a customer service representative.

For individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, dial 711 to connect with California Relay, or call 1-800-HEAR-DWP (1-800-432-7397) for TTY.

BACKGROUND ON WATER LOSS AND ONGOING REPAIR WORK

On August 5th, while water system crews were making repairs at a pump station that connects to a 10-million-gallon water tank that serves the area, a valve that controls the flow of water broke during repairs and failed to reopen. As a result, the water flowing into a 54-inch-diameter pipe serving the area was cut off.

This has led to a water service outage in the general area bounded by Rinaldi Avenue to the south, Balboa Blvd to the east, De Soto Ave to the west and the foothills & hills to the north. For specific boundaries, please refer to the map below.

We understand how disruptive this situation has been for our customers, and we want to assure the community that restoring water service safely and swiftly remains our top priority. Our crews are working tirelessly on-site, around the clock, until full service is restored. We remain committed to keeping you informed and supported every step of the way.
