Westwood /Sunset Water Trunk Line Break Update
Thursday, 5pm

LOS ANGELES — As of 5:00 today, LADWP crews continue to excavate the area around the ruptured trunk line on Sunset Boulevard. The area is being prepared to ensure the safety of workers during the complex process of replacing the pipes expected to begin late tonight. At the same time, welders and pipe fitters are working on site and at the LADWP yards to prepare the materials for the replacement.

The latest updates include:

  • The pipe repair is expected to continue through late Friday or early Saturday, after which street repairs will begin. LADWP is coordinating with the Bureaus of Engineering and Street Services to plan and implement street repairs as soon as possible.
  • Progress in excavating the 56 x 41.5 ft. work site around pipe continues. The site is being sloped instead of shored to ensure worker safety.
  • Crews continue both on-site and offsite to fabricate and assemble the customized pieces and fittings necessary to repair the “Y” juncture and the 30 inch and 36 inch trunk line that require repair.
  • Further information on the claims process will be posted on www.ladwpnews.com  under Hot Topics later tonight. Claims forms are also available at www.ladwp.com/claims.
  • For the latest news and information on the repairs please visit www.ladwpnews.com or follow us on Twitter: @LADWP.
