Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Water Declared Safe to Drink in Homes Affected by South LA Water Main Break

December 24, 2018

Boil Water Notice Lifted

Updated 7:30pm

LOS ANGELES (December 24, 2018) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) declared water safe to drink in the homes connected to 75 services affected by the water main break that occurred on Friday, December 21 on East 55th Street between Avalon Boulevard and Main Street in South Los Angeles.

A boil water notice was issued on December 23 when non-potable water service was restored. Following comprehensive water quality tests of samples taken from the immediate area, LADWP notified customers by phone and door-to-door that water is safe for drinking.

Following completion of street repaving early this afternoon by LADWP, Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety removed the red tags from three remaining residences allowing occupants to return home. LADWP will continue to provide lodging and meals for customers who need additional time to transition home.

Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services will provide street sweeping services to ensure the roads are clean. Road closures will be removed tomorrow morning on December 25.

If you are affected by the water main break and need additional information, call 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397).
