Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Update: Pacific Palisades Pole-Top Distributing Stations

May 6, 2016

On March 14, 2016, LADWP hosted a community meeting to discuss the proposed locations for two temporary pole-top distributing stations necessary to ensure a reliable power supply for the Pacific Palisades community. During this meeting, LADWP shared the proposed locations and identified alternatives, solicited community input, and obtained recommendations for other possible locations for the temporary facilities – list of locations included below.

As a result of the March 14 meeting, LADWP received several emails and comments from Pacific Palisades stakeholders providing valuable input on the community’s preferred locations for the installation of the pole-top distribution stations.  LADWP reviewed the community’s responses and evaluated each location for its electric feasibility and constructability.  We are pleased to report that after this review, LADWP determined that it could construct the stations at two alternative sites:  Sunset Blvd near Marquez Ave. (called the Bernheimer lot), and Temescal Canyon Blvd. south of Sunset Blvd. These two community-preferred locations have also been determined to be electrically feasible, which is a basic requirement of any selected location.

LADWP will move forward with constructing the pole-top distributing stations at these two locations, finalizing the electrical design to comply with all codes and requirements, obtaining all necessary permits and sanctions, and providing appropriate notification to the residents and businesses in the area in an effort to begin installation in  June 2016.  The alternative locations will continue to be viable backup options which LADWP may pursue in the event that the preferred locations are for some reason rendered infeasible. If any such determination is made, we will inform the community before any construction begins.
