Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Remarks by LADWP Chief Operating Officer Raman Raj Regarding Board President Lee Kanon Alpert

December 7, 2010

Remarks by LADWP Chief Operating Officer Raman Raj
Regarding Board President Lee Kanon Alpert

LADWP Chief Operating Officer Raman Raj delivered the following remarks at today’s meeting of the Board of Water & Power Commissioners following the announcement by Board President Lee Kanon Alpert that he would depart the Board:

“I want to take just a moment to thank you for your leadership, your friendship and your support of this Department over the past three years.  You have not only been an advocate for our customers, but a friend to this Department and to all of its employees.  We have been through a lot together, but you always offered a steady, firm and fair hand.

So, on behalf of the 9,000+ men and women who keep the lights on every day and water flowing in our City, I’d like to express their thanks and my own personal gratitude to you for your service to this Department.

Many people forget or do not even realize that you and our other commissioners serve without pay – it bears saying again now.  Service on the Board of a $4 billion plus public business for free is a lot to ask of anyone, but especially for those who serve as Presidents of Commissions and in proprietary departments like the DWP.

You have served with distinction and it has been an honor working with you.  Again, personally and on behalf of the entire leadership team, thank you.”
