Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Power Outage Update As of 6:30 a.m. – Tuesday

October 5, 2010

Power Outage Update

As of 6:30 a.m. – Tuesday

LOS ANGELES- With crews working throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning to restore more than 18,000 power outages, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) this morning reports approximately 13,500 of LADWP’s 1.4 million electric customers are currently experiencing power service interruptions as rain and winds caused outages in several neighborhoods. It is common for rain and wind storms, particularly the first significant storm of the season, to cause some temporary power outages as dried palm fronds, tree branches and other debris fall and make contact with power lines.

The following communities had the most number of customers impacted:

•South Los Angeles: 6,000
•Koreatown: 1,800
•Hyde Park: 1,500

LADWP crews continue working around the clock as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.

The public and members of the media are encouraged to check the Department’s news site and Twitter page, @LADWP, for updates. The next outage update will be posted at approximately 11:00 a.m.
