Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

MEDIA ADVISORY: LA City Leaders and NE Valley Residents Launch Cool LA Initiative

September 15, 2022

"Cool LA Initiative" image. Helping customers beat the heat and stay cool. WHEN:
8:30 A.M.
Friday, September 16, 2022

WHERE:
Mid-Valley Senior Center
8825 Kester Ave, Panorama City, CA 91402

WHO:
-Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
-Cynthia McClain-Hill, President of Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners
-Martin Adams, General Manager & Chief Engineer, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power
-Veronica Padilla-Campos, Executive Director, Pacoima Beautiful
-Eligible LADWP customers who will receive free portable ACs as part of the program launch

WHAT:
The Mayor will join representatives of LADWP at the Mid-Valley Senior Center to officially launch LADWP’s Cool LA initiative. Cool LA offers programs that are aimed at alleviating heat-related stresses for LADWP customers, especially seniors on fixed income, low-income Angelenos and those who are medically-vulnerable. LADWP will be providing room air conditioning units to a few eligible LADWP customers at this launch event.

This conference will highlight the two hallmark programs of Cool LA, which are an increase in portable AC units for eligible customers and the introduction of a monthly billing option available to all LADWP residential customers called Level Pay. Portable and window room air conditioning rebates have been tripled from $75 to $225 for eligible customers who purchase units from LADWP’s online Efficient Product Marketplace. Level Pay – a new billing option available to ALL LADWP customers – will allow participants to spread their bills evenly over a twelve-month period in order to alleviate financial strains and budgeting woes during the hottest, and usually the most energy-intensive, highest utility billing months of the year.

Cool-LA is one of the first efforts undertaken as part of LADWP’s LA100 Equity Strategies initiative, ensuring that all Angelenos benefit from and can participate in LA’s clean energy transformation.

VISUALS:
Several portable AC units on display. Pre-identified, eligible LADWP customers will be on-hand to receive the free AC units. Posters in English and Spanish on the “Cool LA” initiative.
