Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

LADWP Heat Storm Update – September 8, 2024, 6:00 p.m.

September 8, 2024

Below is an update on our Heat Storm response as of 6PM on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The number of customers without power is 15,208 out of LADWP’s 1.5 million electric customers. The communities with the most number of impacted customers are Harvard Park, Hollywood and Northridge. The Department’s Operation Center (DOC) continues to be activated to coordinate our response across the organization.

Customers experiencing an outage can expect that a crew response may extend beyond 24 hours. This is due to the high number of smaller outages and is meant to help set expectations for our customers that reflect operating conditions and response times.

At 4:30 p.m. today Distributing Station 27, that serves electricity to parts of the Watts and Green Meadows communities, became overloaded due to high demand impacted further by the extreme heat. In order to prevent a complete area outage, we began 30 and 60 minute rotating outages in parts of the neighborhood. These temporary outages are estimated to continue through 8 p.m.

We have crews actively working within the distributing station to reduce equipment temperature and prevent permanent equipment damage. We apologize for the inconvenience as we work to restore service to normal and prevent future outages.

We are utilizing all available resources to support our restoration efforts at this time. With crews working around the clock, we continue to prioritize the restoration of outages with the longest durations and others involving large circuit outages, affecting the largest number of customers.

LADWP is in direct communication with residential customers who have been without power for more than 30 hours, and is working to deliver ice to those affected customers.

We continue to share information via our social media channels, including this LADWP September 2024 Outage Response FAQ which is posted in our newsroom and will be shared in our news release and social media.
