Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

LADWP and the Inyo County Office of Education Double the Total Career and Technical Education Scholarship Amount to $20,000 for 2023 Scholarship Winners

June 12, 2023

June 12, 2023 (Inyo County, CA) – For the fourth consecutive year, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) partnered with the Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE) on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship for graduating high school students in Inyo County. To help with the increasing costs of educational materials, tools, and tuition, LADWP and ICOE increased the scholarship program amount from $10,000 to $20,000, awarding five recipients each a $4,000 scholarship.

The 2023 winners are:
Bishop Union High School: Albert Cano, Corbin Houston, Cade McMurry
Palisade Glacier High School: Osmany Hernandez
Lone Pine High School: Tristan Ashley

The goal of the CTE scholarship is to help bridge the gap in the areas of technical trade skills and encourage the next generation to pursue careers in skilled labor such as utility work, woodworking, auto mechanics, welding, and information technology.

“We are happy to continue supporting this program that positions high school graduates to begin learning specific skills for their desired careers in the trade fields and congratulate this year’s winners for their accomplishments,” said Adam Perez, Los Angeles Aqueduct manager. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Inyo County to build workforce development resources in the Owens Valley,” said Perez.

“The ICOE is dedicated to promoting CTE in our schools, and one of many ways we demonstrate this is through offering scholarships to students who want to pursue careers in the skilled trades and other CTE-related fields,” said Randy Cook, Associate Superintendent for the Inyo County Office of Education. “Hopefully some of our recipients will return to Inyo County to pursue good paying jobs that LADWP and other employers provide.”

LADWP offers over 25 Career and Technical Education related entry-level positions. For more information on job opportunities offered by LADWP in the Owens Valley, visit LADWPEasternSierra.com/jobs.
