LADWP 3:00 pm Outage Update: LADWP Crews Make Progress Restoring Power in Areas Hit by Heavy Winds

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) crews have made steady progress in restoring power to 11,978 customers from the peak 23,000 without power earlier in the day. Currently there are 11,022 electric customers experiencing power service interruptions stemming from 330 outages incidents in several neighborhoods across the city. LADWP is scheduling District Crews and Tree Trimming Crews to have adequate coverage for the evening. Forecasts predict heavy winds into the night.

Wind storms typically result in power outages as dried palm fronds, tree branches, downed trees and other debris fall and make contact with power lines. LADWP crews are working as diligently and as safely as possible under these heavy wind conditions to restore power to customers affected.

The following communities have the most number of customers impacted:

Hollywood Hills West         1,063

Mid-City                           1,212

Hollywood                         1,432

Brentwood                        105

Palms                              149

Pacific Palisades               349

Lake Balboa                      99

Canoga Park                     1,525

Reseda                             1,034

If Your Power Goes Out

  • Stay calm.
  • Have a flashlight and extra batteries nearby. Don’t use candles in a power outage.
  • Turn off lights but leave one light turned on so you will know when your service is restored.
  • Turn off and unplug appliances and other electrical equipment. Unplug heat-producing items like irons and space heaters. This helps prevent circuit overloading, which could delay restoration of service.

The public and members of the media are encouraged to check the Department’s news site and Twitter page for updates. For downed power lines, please stay away and call 1-800-DIAL DWP (1-800-342-5397).

The next outage update will be posted at approximately 6:00 p.m.
