Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

HARTSOOK STREET WATER MAIN BREAK UPDATE Fire Engine Removed From Sinkhole

September 8, 2009

HARTSOOK STREET WATER MAIN BREAK UPDATE

Fire Engine Removed From Sinkhole

Forty Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) customers are currently without water service in the Valley Village area of the San Fernando Valley as a result of the 6-inch water main break that occurred this morning on the 12000 block of Hartsook Street, west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.  The water service to the main has been successfully turned off at this time and the street remains closed to traffic.   The Los Angeles Fire Department and LADWP crews together have removed a City fire engine that became stuck in the street blowout from the main break.  Currently LADWP crews are assessing the affected area and commencing repair work.

Although it does not appear likely the Hartsook Street water main break is related to the Coldwater Canyon Avenue trunkline break, a full investigation is under way by LADWP officials.

Currently it is not possible to estimate when street repair work will be complete and Hartsook Street will be reopened.  The media and public will be updated as work continues and a better estimate of completion is known.
