Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

Fairfax Avenue Main Breaks

April 3, 2012

Fairfax Avenue Main Breaks

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reports three water main breaks and up to five possible leaks this morning in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, including one break at the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Third Street.

These main breaks are related to inspection work that occurred yesterday at the Lower Franklin Reservoir, which serves this area of Los Angeles. As part of regular inspection protocol, the reservoir is taken offline and temporarily replaced by a different source of water. Operational changes such as these can cause fluctuations in pressure and expose weaknesses in older main lines.

LADWP will make updates via www.ladwpnews.com, and the Department’s Twitter account, @LADWP, as information becomes available.
