Pacific Palisades Fires: Correcting Misinformation about LADWP’s Water System

OWENS RIVER GORGE CLOSED FOR PUBLIC ACCESS

August 26, 2019

OWENS RIVER GORGE CLOSED
FOR PUBLIC ACCESS

SEPTEMBER 9 – SEPTEMBER 17, 2019

LADWP ADVISES PUBLIC OF HIGH WATER LEVELS AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARDS

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will release substantially higher-than-normal flows down the Owens River Gorge for a channel maintenance peak flow starting on September 9 through September 17, 2019. During this time there will be no public access allowed within the Owens River Gorge from Long Valley Dam to Control Gorge Power Plant. LADWP personnel will be monitoring the area for the high flow event.

LADWP warns that swift flowing water and high water levels with strong currents pose potential safety hazards that could result in personal injury and property damage. Visitors are advised to use extreme caution.

LADWP is working in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to improve the quality and quantity of  habitat along the Owens River Gorge.

In order to keep residents and visitors of the Eastern Sierra informed LADWP will continue to issue information related to the high flows.
Real time data on flow levels can be found at http://wsoweb.ladwp.com/Aqueduct/realtime/lvrealtime.htm
