Thank you so much for your interest in attending the 2012 LADWP Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) discussion previously scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the LADWP headquarters.

Please be advised that we are cancelling the meeting that was planned for Saturday, February 11, 2012. 

We will be re-scheduling the IRP-related meeting in the future to discuss elements of the IRP and solicit your feedback. You will  receive an invitation to those discussions. In the meantime, we encourage you to review the 2011 IRP. The report is available at www.ladwp.com and click on Supply & Reliability/Energy Resource Planning.

LADWP will develop a pilot project to test earthquake-resistant joint ductile iron pipe in its water system distribution network. The earthquake-resistant pipe was developed and is manufactured by the Japanese-based Kubota Corporation. Designed for flexibility, the pipe responds to external factors including earthquake, landslide and temperature changes by actually moving to accommodate the force and resist the inevitable rupture that would occur in traditional pipe. The technology has been incorporated into the buried water infrastructure in some of Japan’s largest cities, including Tokyo, Kyoto and Kobe, over the past forty years. During seismic events including the 1995 Kobe earthquake, 2004 and 2007 Niigata earthquakes, and 2011 Great East Japan magnitude 9.0 earthquake, the pipe has repeatedly proven 100% effective with no documented failures. The LADWP pilot program will test the pipe to learn if incorporating it into the system will improve reliability.
