2009 Holiday Light Festival Launches Thursday, December 3rd

Kicking Off With Bike Night

LOS ANGELES — It just wouldn’t be the holidays without the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s Holiday Light Festival in Griffith Park. This year the festival starts one week later than usual, so you can linger over your Thanksgiving turkey. Friends and families from across the City are invited to get into the spirit of the season and enjoy the annual light festival, now in its 14th year.  Visitors can view more than one million energy-efficient LED lights in festive displays showcasing the uniqueness of the City of Los Angeles.

The Holiday Light Festival in Griffith Park is open every night, December 3rd through December 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This one-mile celebration of twinkling lights and music has become an LA tradition.

The fun starts with our preview “Bike Night” on Thursday, December 3rd, followed by our expanded “vehicle free” walking only nights December 4-17. From December 18-30 visitors can drive through in their cars, walk the route or ride the shuttles.

Visitors to the light festival are reminded to wear comfortable shoes and dress warmly if they are walking.  Parking is available at the LA Zoo, and can be accessed through Zoo Drive.

For more information log on to the festival web site www.ladwplightfestival.com or call the information line at (213) 367-1255.

Don’t miss this once-a-year tradition.
