CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY- LADWP 1^st STREET TRUNK LINE PROJECT

Traffic Detour at Western Avenue and 1^st Street
Businesses Remain Open During Construction

WHAT:	The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will be in construction on the First Street Trunk Line (FSTL) Project at the intersection of Western Avenue and 1^st Street. Traffic detours will be in place.
WHEN:	Construction begins Monday, May 11 and is expected to last approximately ten to twelve weeks.
WHERE:	Traffic along Western Avenue will be reduced and detours will be in place beginning at Beverly Boulevard on the north end and 3^rd Street on the south. · During the first phase of construction, traffic along Western Avenue will be reduced to one northbound lane only. Southbound lanes will be closed to through traffic at 1^st Street. · During the second phase of construction (expected to begin in mid to late June), traffic along Western Avenue will be switched to one southbound lane only. Northbound lanes will be closed to through traffic at 1^st Street. · Detours available along Normandie Avenue and Wilton Avenue. Local access will be maintained for residents, businesses and customers. Businesses will be open during construction.
WHY:	The greater FSTL Project will construct a 60-inch diameter potable-water pipeline installed in segments along First Street between Van Ness Avenue and Dillon Street. Once complete, the FSTL will improve reliability of the LADWP distribution system. Water supply from other portions of the City can be transported to the Silver Lake service area via this trunk line. The proposed pipeline will also provide for operational flexibility and assist with future water quality improvement projects.
