MEDIA ADVISORY
UPDATE ON POWER OUTAGE IN BRENTWOOD
POWER RESTORED TO INDUSTRIAL CUSTOMERS; WATER SHUT OFF FOR 1 HOME AS PRECAUTION

LOS ANGELES — Power was restored by 8:40 a.m. to about 10 industrial and commercial customers, including the Getty Center, affected by the power outage that was triggered by a landslide in Brentwood this morning.
Additionally, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) electric crews are working to restore power to about 1800 customers in Brentwood and Bel Air affected by three downed power lines in the 300 block of Thurston Avenue. LADWP Crews will work as quickly to restore power as it is safe to do so.

At the request of the Los Angeles Fire Department, LADWP water system crews turned off water service to the home directly affected by the landslide in the 300 block of Thurston as a precautionary measure.

Despite initial reports by the LAFD of a suspected water main leak, LADWP crews found no problem with the water system that would have caused the landslide, but were shutting down the meter at the affected home to prevent any water from further compromising the hillside abutting the backyards of other nearby homes.

At this time it has not been determined that water saturation of any kind led to the landslide.  However, when water saturation is suspected, it can be caused by many different factors, including leaking privately owned irrigation / sprinkler systems on private property, leaky pipes on private property, or a leaking swimming pool, among many other potential causes.

LADWP said the affected home will be without water service until the Fire Department and geologists determine it is safe to restore service.
