PINE TREE PROJECT WILL BRING L.A.'S GREEN POWER
TO 13 PERCENT OF POWER TO CUSTOMERS
WHAT:
A Groundbreaking Ceremony and Inspection Tour to commemorate the official start of construction of the Pine Tree Wind Project-the largest
city-owned wind farm in the U.S.- supplying 120 megawatts of renewable energy to Los Angeles. The Mayor will also announce a new
wind project that will supply an additional 150 megawatts of renewable energy to L.A.

Located on Pine Tree Canyon Road, ½ mile west of Highway 14, about 14 miles north of Mojave. Drive time from L.A.: 2 hours.
VISUALS:
The Mayor and dignitaries will participate in a ceremonial groundbreakingat the Barren Ridge Switching Station, followed by an aerial tour
of the wind project site in the rugged Tehachapi Mountains. Press representatives will have opportunities to tour the location with a LADWP guide.
BACKGROUND:
The Pine Tree Wind Project, scheduled to be in-service in April 2009, will supply 120 MW of renewable energy, enough green power to serve 56,000 households, while a second wind farm to be announced at the Groundbreaking Ceremony - Pine Canyon Wind Farm - is expected to supply 150 MW and serve 70,000 households. Altogether these projects will bring L.A. renewable energy to over 14% of its total power sales to customers. The Barren Ridge Switching Station is a new substation built by LADWP to convey renewable energy to Los Angeles from Pine Tree, Pine Canyon and other future renewable energy generating facilities.
