STORM TIPS - WHAT TO DO IF YOUR POWER GOES OUT

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power seeks to maintain quality electrical service. But, sometimes Mother Nature can interfere with our system, whether it is due to heavy rains that can flood our underground electrical vaults, or strong winds that can blow debris or tree limbs that result in downed power lines. Car accidents involving our power poles or equipment can also result in a loss of power for our customers.  The LADWP wants to make sure that whatever the weather, safety is first and foremost on everyone's mind.

To report a power outage, call the LADWP 24-hour hotline at 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397).

If your neighborhood has been without power, but then is restored and your home is still out of power, please call our Customer Service number at 1-800-DIAL-DWP to report your continued outage.

Should you experience a power outage, be assured that LADWP crews will be working around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The LADWP offers the following tips in the event you experience a power outage:

  • -Call DWP Customer Service at 1-800-DIAL-DWP to report the outage
  • -Stay calm.
  • -Always keep a flashlight and extra batteries near by. Never use candles in a power outage or other emergency.
  • -Turn off or disconnect any appliances or electronic equipment you were using when the power went out.
  • -Leave one light turned on so you will know when your power returns.
  • -If you are cold, don't light a fire indoors. Put on layers of warm clothing instead.
  • -Leave the doors of your refrigerator and freezer closed to keep the food as fresh as possible. If you must eat food that was refrigerated or frozen, check it carefully for signs of spoilage.
