OUTAGE UPDATE AS OF 6 PM

Highlights:

  • Total # of customers affected by outages as of 6 PM today: Approx 17,734. This means more than 10,000 customers have had their power restored since about noon today, when we reported it was close to 30,000 customers affected by outages. During the afternoon we were able to repair many of the partial outages and a circuit outage.
  • Last night customers returning home from vacations and outings coupled with high nighttime temps resulted in increased demand and strain on an already overheated system
  • 5,712 customers are affected by 180 small outages scattered across Valley and Metro 
  • We have 92 crews in the field, including DWP electric trouble crews, district crews, transmission crews, an Owens Valley crew, and private crews who were called in to assist in restoration efforts. This should remain constant until 11 pm.  
  • Crews working their 6th straight day on 16-hour shifts. 
  • Currently 138 Customer Call Center Reps are taking calls; up to 50 reps reported and worked on Monday.

Circuit Outages
There are 2 circuit outages at this time affecting customers in:
Hollywood - 1687 customers
Chinatown - 631 customers

Circuit outages were restored since 4 p.m. in Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks and Sylmar.

A new circuit lock-out occurred at 5:09 pm in Chinatown.

 Partial Circuit Outages:
Widespread outages in neighborhoods in Metro and Valley:
Metro - 16 partial outages:  7,419 customers
Valley - 5 partial outages:   1,544 customers
TOTAL: 21 partial outages: 8,963 customers

Metro Neighborhood Outages (small localized): 121 localized outages affecting 4,701 customers 

Valley Neighborhood outages:  59 localized outages affecting 1,011 customers

Neighborhood outages total: 180 affecting approx 5,712 customers 

POWER DEMAND
Today's energy peak was expected to be 6025 MW
Today's energy demand peaked as of 3:10 PM: 5940 MW
We previously experienced 5 straight days of record setting demand; today was NOT another record setting peak demand.
Customers are urged to continue to conserve power

RESTORATION TIMES
Customers experiencing outages may expect to be without power from 24 to 48 hours.

PAYMENT ASSISTANCE
LADWP offers payment assistance programs for qualified low-income customers and senior citizens, as well as customers on disability or life support.  We also will make payment arrangements as needed for customers experiencing difficulty due to higher energy use during the heat wave.

COOLING CENTERS
The City Dept of Recreation and Parks reports the following senior centers open tonight and tomorrow night until 10 pm. Residents can obtain more info by calling 311.
