LADWP PILOT FEED-IN TARIFF SOLAR PROGRAM GARNERS
STRONG RESPONSE IN FIRST REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) new customer-focused initiative to expand solar power in Los Angeles took an important step forward with the recent close of applications from customers or other third parties seeking to develop and generate up to 10 megawatts (MW) of solar power that will be purchased by LADWP for distribution on the city’s power grid through a Feed-in Tariff Demonstration Program.
LADWP staff has begun reviewing 26 applications submitted during a 1 1/2 month bidding period and will narrow the field to a short list of proposed projects in August. The short-listed projects will undergo interconnection studies in August through September, with final contracts offered and signed in October and November.
The FiT Demonstration Program allows solar energy producers to sell solar power directly to LADWP to feed into its electric distribution grid. During the demonstration phase, the program is offering up to 10 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic projects for third-party development.
Projects will be selected based on the proposer’s price and the project feasibility. Upon completion, successful projects will receive their proposed price per kilowatt-hour, fixed for up to 20 years.
