New Smartphone App, WeTap, Helps LADWP Customers Locate Free Drinking Water from Drinking Fountains

LOS ANGELES — LADWP customers can now locate drinking fountains throughout the city serving free tap water through a new smartphone application called WeTap, available on the Android Market. The new application utilizes global positioning system information on the Android Smartphone to map the locations of drinking fountains nearest to the user.

For each fountain location, WeTap has the capability to display the drinking fountain’s operating condition (i.e. working or broken); provide details about the drinking fountain location; and allow users to upload a picture of the drinking fountain. In addition to locating drinking fountains, the app allows users to add and modify information regarding drinking fountains to expand the database of information.

This application provides a new way for LADWP customers to access free drinking water when they are on the go. By utilizing WeTap to locate the drinking fountain nearest them, customers can refill reusable bottles, and avoid generating unnecessary waste from the use of disposable plastic bottles.

LADWP encourages customers to take advantage of the free tap water available at drinking fountains throughout the city.
